Information for Prospective International Students
Thank you for your interest in PhD studies with QUT. Before you consider applying please refer to the following information.
Following the steps listed below will help us to ensure that your application is considered in a timely and efficient manner.
- Send us an outline of the kind of research you are proposing to do, and a CV to roadsafetycourses@qut.edu.au. This will allow us to see who would be a likely supervisor, and to give you feedback on your proposal and whether your academic record looks like it would meet the standards QUT requires.
- If the feedback is positive, complete the FR form [PDF, 353KB] and send it to QUT, using the advice on the website. You can send in an application using the FR form regardless of the feedback, but as there is a fee for submitting an application it is advisable to seek feedback first.
- QUT will then consider your application. If you meet the academic criteria but do not have the English score required, you may be given a conditional offer of a place, and would be required to achieve the English score within a specified period, usually a year, before you can take up the offer.
It is important to note that this process is about getting an offer of a place to do a PhD, not a scholarship, although you can indicate on the FR form (section 8) that you would like to apply for an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS). There are only a few of these for all of QUT, and they are very competitive. For information on other scholarships, please refer to the International Research Scholarships
page.
CARRS-Q offers scholarships from time to time, and we would consider your application along with others.
If you do not get a scholarship, the costs of study are quite high - see the course details
on the QUT website for more information on costs of study.
If you require further information regarding the costs of study please contact QUT by phone 61 7 3138 2000 or use the AskQUT
online facility.
There are usually opportunities to do Rearch Assistant work, but probably no more than a day per week - this is a restriction imposed on student visas by the Australian Government, and is also a restriction placed on full time PhD students by the university.
If you have any queries please contact the Education Officer on 07 3138 4592 or email roadsafetycourses@qut.edu.au.
