History of the Queensland Road Safety Awards
The Queensland Road Safety Awards were presented annually from 2000 to 2009 to recognise excellence in road safety programs implemented through community, school, industry, business, and state and local government initiatives. The Awards scheme was launched in 2000 as a joint initiative of CARRS-Q and RACQ. Since 2006 the Awards have also been supported by Queensland Transport and Main Roads and, since 2007, the Queensland Police Service. The scheme recognises the work of individuals and groups who have designed programs, innovations or initiatives dedicated to improving road safety, reducing road related trauma and encouraging greater commitment to this cause. Following the success of a new initiative from 2009, the Leighton Contractors Queensland Road Safety Awards Business Development Workshop, and in response to industry, stakeholder and Awards participant feedback, the Awards presentation ceremony was replaced in 2010 with a new event – the Queensland Road Safety Awards Community Engagement Workshop. |
