Judging Criteria
The Queensland Road Safety Awards will be judged according to:
Ownership and community impact - Has the nominee taken ownership of the issue to provide a potential solution? What is the impact on the community?
Collaboration - Has the nominee worked with other groups (eg: government, industry, community) to ensure relevance and involvement?
Relevance - How does the initiative apply to current research findings? Is the initiative relevant to road safety needs in Queensland?
Scope - Can the initiative be expanded or adapted to suit other target groups or organisations?
Feasibility - How practical is the initiative? Could it easily be implemented in similar situations in Queensland?
Innovation - Is the initiative based on a new idea or approach?
Effectiveness - Has the initiative been tested? Does it work?
The judges will accept road safety initiatives designed and implemented by organisations owned and run by Queensland State and Local Government, however these initiatives must go above and beyond the organisation's core activities.
"What I've done doesn't seem important ..."
Every initiative to encourage safer roads is important, no matter how small it may seem. The Awards target the community, not the experts, because it's there that attitudes are changed and lives are saved.
Examples of initiatives include:
- School programs (bicycle safety, road rules)
- Education and training
- Safe driving campaigns
- Community facility improvements (drop off zones, traffic calming)
Judging Panel
Nominations will be reviewed, shortlisted and judged by experts in the road safety field. Judges for 2008 will be announced on 16 May 2008.
